The Design Awards
Dedicated to promoting excellence in veterinary practice and design, the BVHA's biennial Design Awards competition has proved popular and successful over the years, attracting many innovative entries. It is amazing to see how practice design and standards have evolved and improved over the years.
We do appreciate that the Covid pandemic has had a major impact on the working patterns in veterinary practices. As a result the BVHA has decided to extend the deadline for entries to the Design Awards 2021. To celebrate the winner and runners-up the Prizegiving Gala will be a really special event and will be held in early 2022. Further information to follow.
The Design Awards 2021 opens on September 15, 2021 with closing date for entries on October 15, 2021 so you might like to start thinking about your entry now.
The categories for the Design Awards 2021 competition are:
1. New-build premises
2. Conversions
of premises previously used for other purposes
3. Refurbishment
of existing practice premises
Certificates and prizes are awarded to the winner in each
category. The overall winner receives a special prize and there are President’s
Awards for outstanding design features, sustainability, and outstanding working
environment.
Entries must include a floor plan, sent by post, and good
quality photos (up to 20) submitted by email, prints or memory stick along with
a completed application form. An
account, of not more than 500 words, about the project emphasising special
features, satisfaction or otherwise with the end-result and an indication of
the cost of the project is to be included with the submission.
The closing date for entries will be October 15, 2021. The
judging will commence early in late 2021 with an assessment of the submitted material and a
shortlist compiled. The practices which have been shortlisted will be visited by members of the judging panel in early 2022 who will decide on the winners in each category. The prize-winners will be notified by post
and the results will be published. The judges decisions are final.
Representatives from the winning practices will be invited
to the award ceremony to be held in the spring of 2022. Entry to the competition
includes two tickets to the Prize Giving Luncheon.
To enter the
competition, you will need to submit the following information completed on the
entry form for the Design Awards 2021 below.
- Your practice
details.
- The number of staff
employed and their roles in the practice.
- The areas of
veterinary practice in which you are involved, i.e. equine, small animal,
referral.
- A report about your
project emphasising its outstanding design and innovative features.
- No more than 20
photographs showing the practice both before and after the project.
- A full-size floor
plan of the premises, preferably the architect's drawings.
- A second copy of the floor plans with work flows indicated.
- An indication of
the various costs incurred.
Try to avoid errors in your entry
Putting together an entry can take time, use your time efficiently and avoid making mistakes that can hurt your entry, like missing information or photos. A list of the top entry mistakes in pdf format for printing can be found below.
What happens next?
After we receive your entry, our panel of veterinary hospital design experts will gather and examine this year’s entries. A shortlist of finalists will be drawn up for the judges to visit (Covid permitting). Based on this information the winners and runners up in each category will be selected.
Is there anything in it for me?
After the judges have chosen their winners, they be in touch with all of the entrants. In addition to the prizes in each category, the winners will be offered publicity about their project with the BVHA and possibly other veterinary magazine publications. You will also receive a commemorative plaque to place in your reception area, something sure to attract admiration from your clients. The prizes will be awarded (Covid permitting) at the Prize Giving Gala in early 2022 - the date and venue are yet to be confirmed.
The deadline
Entries must be submitted no later than October 15, 2021 so it is time to start planning and organisation your entry now.
